Sidekick answers the question you ask, not the question you meant. Most disappointing results come from prompts like “show me sales” or “write a description”, which leave Sidekick to guess the timeframe, the format and the voice. The fifty prompts below remove the guessing. Each states the period, names the data, fixes the output and, where something would change in your store, asks for confirmation first.
Paste any of them into Sidekick as they are. Replace the words in square brackets with your own. If you find yourself using one more than once a week, save it as a skill by typing / and choosing Create new skill; the MerchantSkill library has fuller, tested versions of most of them with a one-click Add button.
A note on how these are written. Sidekick reads your store’s data with the same permissions you have, so every prompt can reference real objects: products, orders, customers, discounts, inventory. None of them can see outside Shopify. Where a task needs ad or email data, we say so.
Sales and analytics
These are the highest-value prompts for most merchants because they replace clicking through reports.
- Compare the last 7 complete days with the previous 7, in the shop’s timezone. Show total sales, orders, average order value, conversion rate and sessions as a table with percentage change.
Why it works: “complete days” avoids a half-day distorting the comparison, and the table format makes next week’s run comparable. Save as /weekly-review.
- Give me yesterday’s sales, orders, average order value and sessions, each compared with the same weekday last week, in five lines. Then the top 3 products by revenue.
Comparing Tuesday with Tuesday matters more than comparing with the average. Save as /yesterday-sales.
- Rank my products for the last 30 days by revenue and by units, compared with the previous 30. Show the 5 fastest growing and 5 fastest declining, and flag any top-10 product with fewer than 14 days of stock.
The stock flag turns “what sold” into “what will run out”. Save as /top-products.
- Which sales channel grew or shrank by more than 20% in the last 30 days compared with the previous 30? Show channel, revenue, orders and change.
- Show me new versus returning customer revenue for each of the last 8 weeks as a table, and tell me whether the returning share is rising or falling.
- Using only my store’s data from the last 30 days, list the five biggest sales opportunities as one sentence each, naming the product or segment, the number behind it, and the action. Do not use generic ecommerce advice. Do not change anything.
This is the prompt that turns reports into a to-do list. Save as /boost-sales.
Products and catalog
- Read the product [PRODUCT NAME], including options, price and current description, and two of my best sellers’ descriptions. Write a 40 to 60 word opening paragraph, 3 to 5 benefit bullets, a “good to know” line, an SEO title under 60 characters and a meta description under 155. Show the draft and ask before updating the product.
Reading the best sellers first is what makes the copy sound like your store. Save as /pdp-copy.
- Audit my product titles. Propose one naming pattern, show it on five real titles, then list every product that does not fit as a table of current title, new title and reason. Do not rename anything until I approve.
- Find product images with empty, duplicated or generic alt text. Write 8 to 16 word alt text for each that describes what is visible. Show a table and ask before applying.
- Check each active product’s category and product type against the standard product taxonomy. List mismatches with a proposed category and type, then ask before changing anything.
- List active products with fewer than 3 images, no description, or no cost per item, as three separate lists.
SEO and content
- Write two SEO titles under 60 characters and two meta descriptions between 120 and 155 characters for [PRODUCT OR COLLECTION], targeting the phrase [KEYWORD]. Show character counts. Apply the one I choose.
Save as /meta-tags.
- Write a 60 to 110 word description for the [COLLECTION] collection based on the products actually in it, with the price range and one reason to buy from us taken from our policies. Then an SEO title and meta description. Ask before applying.
- Draft a 700 to 1,000 word blog post for the keyword [KEYWORD] that links to 2 to 4 of our relevant products by name. Outline first, then write. Save it as an unpublished draft.
- Write a product FAQ of 5 to 8 questions for [PRODUCT NAME] using its data and our shipping and returns policies. Mark anything you cannot answer from the data as [CONFIRM].
- List every product and collection with an empty SEO title or meta description, most visited first.
Discounts and promotions
- Create a discount code [CODE] for [VALUE] off the entire order, one use per customer, ending [DATE] at 23:59 in the shop’s timezone. First check active discounts for clashes and tell me if there are any. Then show me the summary.
The clash check stops you stacking a new code on top of a running sale. Save as /discount-code.
- Look at my order totals for the last 60 days and recommend a free-shipping threshold 15 to 25% above the median order value. Show what share of orders already qualify. Ask before creating the automatic discount.
- Plan a flash sale on [COLLECTION] at [PERCENT] off from [START] to [END]: a hidden sale collection, an automatic discount limited to it with those times, and a Shopify Email draft. Show all three before creating anything, and exclude any product with fewer than 5 units.
One approval, three things created. Save as /flash-sale.
- Which discount codes were used in the last 30 days, how many times, and what revenue and average order value did orders with each code produce?
Customers and segments
- Count customers with lifetime spend of at least [AMOUNT] or 3 or more orders in the last 12 months. Report the count and their share of 12-month revenue. If that is under 2% or over 15% of buyers, suggest a better threshold. Ask before creating a segment called VIP.
Save as /vip-segment.
- Find customers with at least one order but none in the last 90 days. Split them into one-time buyers and repeat buyers who stopped, with counts and average lifetime spend for each, and the 5 products the repeat group bought most.
- How many customers placed their first and only order in the last 30 days, and what did they buy most? What share of customers whose first order was 60 to 90 days ago have ordered again?
- Show me everything I should know about customer [EMAIL] before I reply to them: orders, spend, last order, refunds, tags, notes, open orders, in at most 10 lines.
Email and marketing
- Draft a Shopify Email campaign to [GOAL] using our 3 or 4 best sellers from the last 30 days that are in stock. Give me 3 subject lines under 45 characters, preview text, a headline, one paragraph, a product block per product with a one-line benefit, and one call to action. Save as a draft; do not send.
Save as /campaign-draft.
- Write 10 subject lines for an email about [TOPIC], two each in these styles: plain statement, question, benefit, curiosity, specific number. Under 45 characters, with matching preview text under 90. Mark the two you would A/B test.
- Draft a win-back email for customers with no order in 90 days. Lead with what is new, name 2 or 3 real products related to what they used to buy, and do not invent a discount. Never write “we miss you”.
- Build a launch kit for [PRODUCT]: a launch email, an Instagram caption under 150 words with 5 hashtags, a short Reels script, and an announcement-bar line under 60 characters. Warn me if stock is under 20 units.
Orders and fulfillment
- List paid orders still unfulfilled after 3 days, oldest first, with order number, days waiting, total and a likely cause: out-of-stock item, pre-order, address problem, high risk, or no obvious cause. Group by cause.
The grouping is the point; it shows you what to fix. Save as /unfulfilled.
- List unfulfilled orders from the last 14 days with medium or high risk. For each, give the specific indicators and suggest hold-and-verify, fulfil with signature, or fulfil normally. Do not cancel anything.
- Give me today’s orders brief: new orders since midnight yesterday, paid and unfulfilled, on hold, returns pending, awaiting payment, and any order over 3 times the average order value.
- Find orders that [RULE, for example: contain a pre-order product] in the last 90 days, show me the count and the first 20, and ask before adding the tag [TAG] to all of them.
Inventory and restock
- For every variant that sold in the last 30 days, compute days of cover from current inventory and daily sales rate. List everything under 14 days, ranked by 30-day revenue, with units on hand and units sold. Also list variants at zero that sold in the last 30 days.
Save as /low-stock.
- Report days of cover for all tracked variants, sorted shortest first, with stock value using cost per item where set. Summarize total stock value, value under 14 days of cover, and value over 120 days.
- Find variants with more than 5 units on hand and 2 or fewer sales in 90 days. Value the stock and propose one clearance action per product: bundle, discount, feature, or remove. Do not create anything.
- Assuming a supplier lead time of [DAYS] days and a target of 45 days of cover after delivery, calculate suggested reorder quantities from the last 60 days of sales, grouped by vendor, and draft the supplier email for each vendor.
Automations with Shopify Flow
- Build a Shopify Flow workflow: trigger when an order is paid; if the customer’s total spend is at least [AMOUNT] and their tags do not include vip, add the customer tag vip. Create it turned off and tell me where to review it.
Save as /flow-vip-tag.
- Build a Flow that sends an internal email to [EMAIL] when a variant’s inventory drops below [NUMBER], adds a low-stock-alerted product tag so it does not repeat, and a second Flow that removes the tag when inventory rises above three times that number. Create both inactive.
- Build a Flow that holds fulfilment on orders with high risk, tags them review-risk, and emails me the order number, total and risk indicators. Create it inactive.
- Build a Flow that waits [DAYS] days after an order is delivered, checks it was not refunded, and adds the order tag followup-due. Create it inactive and tell me how to connect the tag to a Shopify Email automation.
Store design and images
- Check whether my live theme is built on Horizon. If it is, generate a theme block that [DESCRIPTION, for example: shows three trust badges with editable icons and text], matching the theme’s fonts and colour scheme, and tell me how to add it in the theme editor. Do not publish anything.
- Generate a hero-style product image for [PRODUCT] using its existing images as reference for shape and colour, on a clean background in our brand palette, no text or logos. Ask before saving it to the product’s media.
- Write three announcement-bar lines under 60 characters based only on our currently active discounts and shipping policy. Show character counts.
- Review my homepage sections in order against my top 10 products and top 5 collections by revenue for the last 30 days. Tell me whether the best sellers are featured, whether the shipping promise is visible early, and list the five changes most likely to lift conversion, with the section to edit.
B2B and wholesale
- Create a company record for [COMPANY] with net 30 payment terms. Ask me for the billing address, main contact and catalog in one message, show the record you will create, and ask before creating it. Search first and stop if a company with that name or contact email exists.
- Review B2B orders for the last 30 days grouped by company: order count, revenue, average order value, most ordered products, and unpaid invoices sorted by most overdue.
Support and policies
- Draft a reply to a “where is my order” question for order [NUMBER]. Pull the fulfilment status, carrier, tracking and last scan. State exactly what is known, give the tracking link, and a specific next date. If it is late or stalled, propose one remedy for me to approve. Do not send anything.
Save as /wismo.
- Write instant answers for Shopify Inbox for these eight questions, using our real shipping rates, delivery windows and returns policy: delivery time, shipping cost, do you ship to my country, returns and exchanges, where is my order, discounts, stock, how to reach a person. Mark gaps as [CONFIRM].
- Draft a returns and refund policy with a [DAYS] day window from our return rules and product types, in plain language under the headings: window, what can be returned, what cannot, how to start a return, refunds, exchanges, return shipping, damaged items, contact. Ask before publishing.
Setup and brand voice
- Use this brand voice for everything you write in this conversation for [STORE], which sells [PRODUCTS] to [CUSTOMER]. Tone: [TONE]. Short sentences, concrete nouns, benefits over adjectives. Never use: elevate, unleash, premium quality, game-changing, curated, seamless, or exclamation marks. Read two best-selling product descriptions first and match their vocabulary. Confirm in one line and wait.
Run this before any content prompt and every description, email and policy that follows sounds like your store. Save as /brand-voice.
Making these repeatable
Sidekick lets each user save 25 prompts as skills with a slash shortcut, shareable by link. If you save the fifty above you will run out of slots, so pick by frequency: the daily ones (2, 29, 30, 31, 47), the weekly ones (1, 3, 6, 33, 36, 25, 26), and the ones you reach for often (7, 12, 17, 19, 21, 22, 27, 37, 35). That is 21, leaving four for seasonal skills. The 25-slot planner helps you assemble the set, and the packs are pre-built sets that fit.
