Top and Declining Products

/top-products  Ranks products by revenue and units, flags fastest growers and decliners, and checks stock on the winners.

Add to Sidekick

Add opens your Shopify admin with the skill prefilled; review it there and click Add. If nothing appears, use Copy and follow the steps below.

Personalize before you add

Values come from your store profile when set. Leave a field blank to keep the placeholder and fill it in Sidekick.

The skill

Suggested shortcut: /top-products
Rank my products for [TIMEFRAME] and compare with the period before it.

## Steps
1. Pull sales by product for both periods: revenue, units, orders.
2. Build four lists from the returned rows only: top 10 by revenue, top 10 by units, 5 fastest growing by revenue (minimum 5 orders in the current period), 5 fastest declining.
3. For the top 10 by revenue, check current inventory. Flag any product with fewer than 14 days of stock at the current sales rate, and any product that is out of stock.
4. Point out products that appear in the top-units list but not the top-revenue list; these are low-price volume items that may suit a bundle.

## Output
Four short tables with product, revenue, units, % change and a stock note. End with one paragraph of observations, not recommendations.

Never compute a percentage change from zero. If a product was added during the period, mark it "new" instead of a % change.
How to add it to Sidekick
  1. Click Add to Sidekick above. Your Shopify admin opens with the skill ready to review. Click Add. Done.
  2. If the button does nothing in your store: click Copy skill, open Sidekick in your admin, type /, choose Create new skill, name the shortcut top-products, paste the text as the instructions, and save.
  3. To run it, type /top-products in Sidekick. Sidekick keeps up to 25 skills; manage yours from the skills menu.

What you get

Four tables and a short paragraph. The stock column is the part most merchants miss: it turns “what sold” into “what will run out.”

When to use it

Before planning promotions, ads or a restock. Pair it with /low-stock for the purchasing view and /dead-stock for the clearance view.

Variations

  • Add “Group by product type” for stores with many variants.
  • Add “Show gross margin if cost per item is set” if you record costs in Shopify.

Limits

Cost per item must be filled in on products for any margin view. Sidekick will not invent costs.
