SEO Titles and Meta Descriptions

/meta-tags  Writes SEO titles under 60 characters and meta descriptions under 155 for a product, collection or page, and applies them after approval.

Add to Sidekick

Add opens your Shopify admin with the skill prefilled; review it there and click Add. If nothing appears, use Copy and follow the steps below.

Personalize before you add

Values come from your store profile when set. Leave a field blank to keep the placeholder and fill it in Sidekick.

The skill

Suggested shortcut: /meta-tags
Write SEO fields for [TARGET], targeting the phrase [MAIN KEYWORD].

## Steps
1. Open the item and read its title, description and, for a collection, the first products in it. Note the current SEO title and meta description if set.
2. Write two options for the SEO title, each at most 60 characters, leading with the keyword phrase and ending with the store name only if space allows.
3. Write two options for the meta description, each 120 to 155 characters, in plain language, with one concrete detail (material, range, shipping promise) and no exclamation marks.
4. Show both options with character counts. After the user picks one, apply it to the item's search engine listing fields.

## Output
A table: option, SEO title, characters, meta description, characters. Then "Which option should I apply?"

Do not stuff keywords, do not repeat the store name twice, and do not promise anything the page does not deliver.
How to add it to Sidekick
  1. Click Add to Sidekick above. Your Shopify admin opens with the skill ready to review. Click Add. Done.
  2. If the button does nothing in your store: click Copy skill, open Sidekick in your admin, type /, choose Create new skill, name the shortcut meta-tags, paste the text as the instructions, and save.
  3. To run it, type /meta-tags in Sidekick. Sidekick keeps up to 25 skills; manage yours from the skills menu.

What you get

Two ready-to-apply options with character counts, so nothing gets truncated in search results. Sidekick applies the winner to the search engine listing fields.

When to use it

For your top 20 pages by traffic first, then new products and collections as they launch.

Variations

  • “Do all products in the [collection] collection, one table per product” for a batch.
  • Paste a keyword list from Google Search Console into the placeholder for better targeting.

Limits

Sidekick has no keyword-volume data. Bring keywords from Search Console or a keyword tool if you want to target something specific.

Status: Written for Sidekick but not yet run on a live store. Results may need a second prompt. Time saved: about 10 min / page.
